With the sun shining, the top down and a picnic basket stowed away, we took the Rover on a special day out to the International Moth Rally at Woburn Abbey on Sunday 18th August 2013.
The sun beat down, the wind dropped and our first view of the Moths were a stream of them coming into land on the specially mown grass strip in the Deer Park of the Abbey. We sat waiting patiently at the temporary traffic lights set up for safety as plane after plane slowed and drifted across our bonnet to land perfectly. We were excited to get parked up and take a closer look at these wonderful flying machines. We were not disappointed.
We received a very warm welcome from all the classic car organisers (led by Bernard King) and parked up neatly between a pretty red MG and a lovely cream Austin Seven drop head.
Our position was perfect to enjoy the fabulous daring flying exploits of the Tiger Moth Club members and visitors. The flypasts and fantasic formation flying by The Tiger 9 Formation Display Team was a real test of the pilots’ skill keeping these light aircraft in box and arrow formations. A display to match the talents of the Red Arrows – albeit at a slower pace!
As a family, we were honoured to be presented with the Bonhams’ “Spirit of the Event Cup”. This was presented to the car which embodied the spirit of the Rally.
